Resumen
En 1922 José Vasconcelos hace un viaje a América del Sur e invita en Chile a Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, que llegará a conocerse como Gabriela Mistral, para que apoye su movimiento de Reforma Educacional. Su estancia en México de 1922 a 1924 dejará profunda huella en ambos. Mucho más tarde ella seguirá la huella del gran mexicano con preocupación y afecto. Este trabajo pretende revivir ese momento privilegiado de encuentro entre un mexicano y una chilena en el plano pedagógico al servicio de un movimiento de reforma como no se ha visto otro. Con la mirada puesta en los jóvenes pedagogos de hoy, que conocen poco de esta herencia, es un aporte al estudio decantado y sin la pasión del momento histórico vivido, de José Vasconcelos y de Gabriela Mistral en una de sus dimensiones más notables: la pedagogía.
Abstract
In 1922 José Vasconcelos traveled to South America. While in Chile, he invited Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, who was to become known as Gabriela Mistral, to support his Educational Reform Movement. Her stay in Mexico from 1922 to 1924 was to leave a profound impression on both educators. Much later, she would follow the footsteps of the great Mexican educator with dedication and affection. In this article, our goal is to recreate for the reader this unique moment in history, in which two teachers, one Mexican and the other Chilean, met in the context of a high point in the history of educational reform which has never been equaled. With this work, we hope to stimulate an appreciation of the educational heritage of our culture by making this extraordinary meeting between José Vasconcelos and Gabriela Mistral come alive for the young teachers of today, who know little about this significant event in the history of education.
