Resumen
La migración de brasileños hacia el exterior es un fenómeno reciente que situó al paÃs en los nuevos flujos de la población mundial. El objetivo de este artÃculo es mostrar la configuración de las redes de migración y las repercusiones de ésta en las relaciones familiares y de género. El trabajo de campo fue llevado a cabo en Criciúma (Brasil) y Boston (Estados Unidos). Los datos recogidos revelaron que las mujeres no sólo esperan a sus esposos e hijos, sino que también participan efectivamente en el proceso, integrando y articulando redes de migración y creando una conexión entre los dos lugares.
Abstract
Brazilian migration abroad is a recent phenomenon that has placed the country among the new flows of global population. The aim of this article is to show how the migration networks are structured and how this structure impacts on family and gender relations. The field work was carried out in Criciúma (Brazil) and Boston (United States). The data collected revealed that not only do women wait for their husbands and sons, they also have an effective participation in the process, establishing and operating migration networks and creating connections between the two places.
