Este ensayo pretende traer a la memoria la forma en que se instituyó el Sistema Modular de la UAM-Xochimilco en 1974-1976 y cuáles las influencias freireanas a dicho modelo al inicio de su funcionamiento, esto es: el concepto de cultura, como categoría crítica; el concepto de problematización; la crítica a la educación bancaria; el concepto de concienciación; la perspectiva horizontal dialógica y el concepto de liberación. Finalmente analizar la forma en que quedó integrada dentro de este modelo alternativo de educación a nivel superior el discurso freireano y el impacto que continúa teniendo hasta el día de hoy dentro de nuestro paradigma educativo.

The aim of this essay is to analyse the way in wich the Modular System was founded in the UAM-Xochimilco between 1974 and 1976. The influence of Freire was crucial in its initial stages. Key concepts were: culture as category of criticism, the problem as a point of focus, the criticism of the "bank account" concept of learning, consciousnes-raising, the dialogically horizontal perspective and the concept of liberation. Another objetive of the article is to analyse the way in wich the discourse of Freire became integrated into this alternative model of education and the impact it still has on it.
