Este artículo es un estudio discursivo sobre la fotografía tomada a indígenas mexicanos a partir del invento del daguerrotipo. Se realiza una tipología que consiste en cuatro formas discursivas de fotografía indígena. El análisis se centra en los discursos fotográficos y su relación con los discursos anteriores sobre indígenas en los campos de la ciencia, el arte y la escuela. Se asume que las fotografías son construcciones discursivas que “nombran correctamente” y ubican políticamente al indígena en el sistema social. Se sostiene la importancia de este tipo de estudios para orientar la reflexión y el análisis de las propuestas comunicativas y de las visibilidades otras.

This article is a discursive study of Mexican indigenous photographs. The author performs a typology that consists in four forms of photographic discourse. The study focuses on analyzing the photographs in relation with previous indigenous discourses in the fields of science, art and education. The assumption is made that the photographs are discursive constructions that “name” and politically place the Indians in the social system. The importance of this type of studies is to guide the analysis of communication proposals and the visibility of others.
